The former goalkeeper, who celebrated successes with Schalke 04, Borussia Dortmund, Arsenal and the German national team, is 50 years old. We look at his red cards, his shoe slip and other crazy actions.
Jens Lehmanns (here in the middle of the yellow jersey) professional career begins in 1988 at the age of 19 years at FC Schalke 04. With the miners, where he becomes a regular in his second season, he rises in 1991 in the first division. His biggest win at the Royal Blues is winning the 1997 UEFA Cup. © imago / Sven Simon In 1993 loses Schalke 04 at Bayer Leverkusen with 5: 1. Already at break, the miners are with 0: 3 behind, coach JOrg Berger Lehmann replaces (in the photo), and sends him home. He goes on foot to the station and takes the S-Bahn to Essen. At the train station he has to borrow five marks from a fan because he has no money with him. © imago / Horst Muller After a six-month interlude at AC Milan Lehmann changes in the winter of 1998/99 back to Germany, where he now cheers for Schalke rival Borussia Dortmund. In 2002 he becomes German champion there. In the black and yellow, he is not only positive … © imago / Sven Simon He collects 63 yellow cards in his career. Five times he flies alone in the Bundesliga – as here in March 2000 against Hansa Rostock, where he draws his opponent by the hair – with red from the square. He is also the goalkeeper with the most Bundesliga place references. © imago / Camera 4 In the summer of 2003, Lehmann moves to the Premier League to Arsenal and wins there in the first season as the first goalkeeper the Premier League. Arsenal to top star Thierry Henry remains in that season without a single defeat, which Preston North End 1889 had succeeded recently. © imago / Geoff Martin In 2006, Jens Lehmann stands with Arsenal in the final of the Champions League against FC Barcelona. The German goalkeeper has after 19 minutes of play because of an emergency brake against Barcelona striker Samuel Eto'o from the square. Although Arsenal even take the lead, the Londoners lose 2-1 at the end against the Catalans. © imago / Bernd King Also in the DFB-Elf Lehmann leaves his mark. He remains at World Cup 1998, EC 2000, WM 2002 and European Championship 2004 still without use, he is at the 2006 home World Cup surprisingly preferred to his counterpart Oliver Kahn. In the heyday of the competition Lehmann fires in the direction of Kahn: "I do not know what to talk about, I do not have a 24-year-old girlfriend, I have a different life". © imago / Ulmer At the 2006 World Cup in Germany, however, there is a big gesture between the two eternal quarrels. The DFB-Elf with Lehmann in goal had fought in the quarterfinals against Argentina on penalties. At that time, Kahn is going to become the German number one in order to wish his rival good luck. © imago / Sven Simon And maybe it has also done something. The world-famous note that Lehmann received from goalkeeping coach KOpke has certainly brought even more. On it was information about the Argentine shooters. Before each shot Lehmann brings out the note and actually holds two penalties. Germany moves into the semi-finals of the World Cup. © imago / Werek Two years later, Lehmann moved on to the VfB Stuttgart at the age of almost 39 years. In the fall of his career, he is increasingly attracted by numerous absurd actions. In the Champions League game against Unirea Urziceni in December 2009, for example, he leaves the lawn during the game and pees while sitting behind the gang. To date, he has not commented on the incident. © imago / Press Photo Baumann During his time at VfB Stuttgart Lehmann lives with his family on Lake Starnberg in the Munich area. Since he is too big for commuting between the cities, he can be helicoptered a few times for training and back again. Because of the resulting noise, the neighbors complain. © imago / Hartenfelser Even if he does not always follow himself, Jens Lehmann's manners are obviously very important. In January 2009, he refused the autograph to a young fan because he had not said "please". © imago / Press Photo Baumann In February 2009, Hoffenheim's Sejad Salihovic loses a shoe in the game against Stuttgart. Lehmann runs the twenty meters out of his gate, grabs the shoe and keeps it hidden behind his back. Finally, he runs back to his chest and throws the shoe behind him, where he lands on the net of the gate. © imago / Press Photo Baumann In the game of VfB against FSV Mainz 05 end of 2009 Lehmann flies after an assault against Mainz Aristide Bance with red from the square. Then he wants to flee unnoticed from the stadium and rips a fan who follows him, the glasses from the nose. He also pushes a cameraman aside. © Imago / Fishing 4 This year Lehmann was in the headlines because he is thrown out of the Beetle tent at the Munich Oktoberfest because he does not wear a ribbon and the security does not recognize him. Since the end of his active career in 2011, however, Jens Lehmann has calmed down. We wish you a happy 50th birthday! © imago images / Alexander Pohl
