As expected, Mathieu Van der Poel won Sunday at Silvelle in Italy at the European Championship. The Dutchman (24) managed to get out of the grip imposed by the Belgian national team that deprived him of any movement until the last lap. But he finally managed to get out of this hug imposed by the five runners in the blue jersey, including the last Eli Iserbyt who accompanied him almost to the end.
Mathieu Van der Poel never showed any sign of panic, acting almost mechanically when the Belgians seemed exhausted. The young Dutchman already won his tenth title on an elite league, the third consecutive European after two world and five national.
Mathieu Van der Poel announced before the start that this European Championship would be a challenge against the strength of the Belgian team but that it was also really launching his cyclo-cross season he started only last week at Ruddervoorde in Belgium where he had already made an entrance.
