Mathieu van der Poel leads three Belgians and wins third European title in a row


Dutch Mathieu van der Poel won their third European title in a row by winning the European Cyclocross Championship on Sunday in Silvelle, Italy.

Mathieu van der Poel, World Champion, edged Eli Iserbyt, second at 3 seconds, and Laurens Sweeck, third at 20 seconds, at the end of the 20.4 kilometers of the course.

Michael Vanthourenhout is fourth at 24 seconds. Lars van der Haar, another Dutchman, completes the Top 5 at 25 seconds. Quinten Hermans, sixth at 38 seconds, Toon Aerts, seventh at 1:01, and Tim Merlier, tenth at 1:42, round out the Belgian contingent in the top 10.
