Matt Travis was in a bike lane when the truck driver hit him and killed him, police say
According to the New York Police Department, Matt Travis was riding his bike south on a bike lane leaving the Willis Avenue bridge in East Harlem around 2:30 a.m. Street. The driver was trying to turn toward the bridge, police said. The driver hit Travis and caused serious injuries. He was taken to a nearby hospital but was pronounced dead there.
The driver fled the scene and has not been identified, police said. The truck was last seen traveling north on the Willis Avenue bridge. According to NBC New York, Travis is the 28th cyclist who dies in car accidents in New York City in 2019.

"He's very unfortunate, you know, he was a good boy, he didn't deserve it," Shaina Alvarez, Travis's cousin, told CBS New York.
Alvarez said Travis was riding his bike as part of his training for an upcoming game.
"This is not going to go silent, I want to generate a lot of awareness so that this does not happen to anyone else," Yolanda Nieves, Travis's mother, told CBS New York. Alvarez added: "He says don't turn left, so for these people it doesn't matter what time it is and they left it there like that, it doesn't make any sense."
Nieves told CBS New York that the family expects the driver to be caught. “I hope that when you close your eyes and go to sleep at night, you will see the lifeless body of my son that you left on the street. I hope he chases you for the rest of your life, ”Nieves told the news station.

This man was one of the few people I trained randomly when I started fighting. He has given me many tips and will always appear in different promotions on his bike to support other fighters. He always had a lot of confidence in himself, but he also remained extremely humble. That is one of the reasons why I admired him. THIS MAN WAS A STAR!
