London, Nov 10 (EFE) .- The exam is Alexander Zverev. The German will be the rival that calibrates the status of a Rafael Nadal who has been testing himself in London during the last days and who arrives with the duties done to his debut in the ATP Finals.

The small distension suffered in an abdominal muscle in the semifinals of the 1,000th Masters of Paris-Bercy disrupted the preparation of Spanish, which has had to gradually increase the intensity of service, until reaching the goal of taking out normally this Sunday.

This was recognized by his coach, Carlos Moya, after training on one of the outer courts of the London O2 pavilion.

"I think it was an exam today. It was the first day he was able to take out normally," said Moya.

"We started very slowly. On Friday a little more, we have been increasing the intensity and the load every day and have endured it well," he added.

The progression of Nadal in training has led Moya to be optimistic and to see his pupil in a position to play normally this Monday, when he debuts against Alexander Zverev.

The draw was benevolent with him and gave him another day of recovery. It was just time, since since the injury suffered in the warm-up against Denis Shapovalov in Paris only a week has passed.

Just seven days in which Nadal and his team have worked against the clock to try to get in good physical condition to the last great trophy that is missing in the Balearic medal winners.

A Masters Cup in which he records only two finals and a great string of retreats and injuries, which he hopes will not be repeated this year.

With the number one goal at the end of the year and with an intractable Novak Djokovic, who needed just over an hour to settle his debut against Italian Matteo Berrettini, Nadal will be measured for the sixth time in his career at Zverev, number seven in the world and current champion of the Masters tournament.

"All are very hard," Moya said of a Zverev whom Nadal has never measured under the roof.

"There is not much room to speculate, to catch pace in the first two rounds as usual, you have to be at the top from the beginning," added the coach after Nadal exercised with Roberto Bautista, first substitute of the tournament.

Now it remains to be seen if Nadal's improvement in training moves to the official competition and if the Spaniard can redeploy the game he exhibited in Paris-Bercy and that only physical problems could stop. EFE
