The Padres unveiled new uniforms for the 2020 season on Saturday night that feature a brown and gold color scheme, similar to the one used since the beginning of the franchise in 1969 until 1984.

The new uniforms were presented at Petco Park in front of a few thousand fans by players Fernando Tatis Jr, Eric Hosmer and Manny Machado.

Machado modeled the white house uniform with brown stripes that included the word "Fathers" in brown in the front, adorned in gold.

Hosmer showed the solid brown primary road shirt with a yellow "San Diego" on the front, with sand-colored pants.

Tatis modeled an alternative light brown with dark brown stripes. That shirt had "San Diego" on the front in brown and gold.

Fans have cried for years for a return to coffee. The primary color scheme of the equipment for several years has been blue and white.

"People wanted coffee and we gave it to them," said Chief Executive Ron Fowler. "Now we have to start winning games."

"It will be different, it will be unique and, as they said, they will know who is playing immediately when they see coffee in the field," said Tatis Jr, whose phenomenal rookie season was interrupted by a stress reaction in the lower back.

The Fathers continue to build what they expect a competitive season to be. The playoffs have been lost for 13 consecutive seasons and have not had a winning record since 2010.

"I think that's the way everyone sees it, is that we can turn the page of those difficult times," Hosmer said. "We are trying to start a new wave now, a new culture, and coffee really represents the beginning of all that."

The Padres finished last in the West of the National League with 70-92. Manager Andy Green was fired in the absence of eight games. Rookie manager Jayce Tingler was hired late last month.
