The Puebla Group, headed by several progressive leaders of the region, called this Sunday from Buenos Aires to respect the constitutional order and Bolivian democracy in all its expressions.
In a statement signed by several of its representatives, including former presidents Rafael Correa (Ecuador) and Fernando Lugo (Paraguay), that integration mechanism composed of several personalities, expressed his solidarity with President Evo Morales, his vice president Alvaro Garcia Linera, and with its democratic and peaceful people.
In the midst of the tensions that are felt in that country, with an attempted coup after the elections, as the Bolivian president himself denounced, since the II meeting of the Puebla Group, which concludes this Sunday in Buenos Aires, they summoned the various international organizations to support peace and democracy in that nation.
Also, its protagonists asked ‘all political actors to
exercise your responsibility to preserve peace and respect for order
constitutional, in order to guarantee democratic continuity against
destabilization attempts and calls to violence that affect the
institutional life and living together ’.
The text, backed
also by the former Brazilian foreign minister Celso Amorim, the founder of the Group
and Chilean Marco Enriquez-Ominami advocates support for the dialogue and
understanding promoted by the Government after adding that peace is a
value that must be preserved over any cyclical political interest.
