(Toronto) Sportsnet apologized for Don Cherry's comments on national television when he complained that he rarely sees people who, in his opinion, are immigrants wearing poppies before Remembrance Day.
Sportsnet President Bart Yabsley said Cherry's remarks were offensive and discriminatory.
Yabsley added that the network spoke to Cherry about the seriousness of her comments.
Cherry, 85, made the remarks during his weekly televised talk Saturday night, saying that newcomers to Canada love the way of life here, but do not honor veterans.
His comments provoked outrage on the internet and many called for his dismissal.
Cherry did not immediately respond to requests to offer her reactions.
