The Gantoise wins in Genk and plunges the champion in the crisis

Reigning champion, Genk suffered his sixth loss of the season in the league, losing 0-2 to Gent on Sunday for the 15th round. Winner of victory for three days, Genk is ninth with 20 points while the Gantois, with 11 out of 15, have provisionally taken second place with 28 points.

The match started very badly for the Limburgers. A powerful strike of Milad Mohammadi pushed back by Gaetan Coucke arrived in the feet of Laurent Depoitre. The striker did not pray to open the score (0-1, 2nd). The Buffalos were then able to count on their goalkeeper Thomas Kaminski, who made saves in front of Ally Samatta (18th, 25th) and Patrik Hrosovsky (25th).

The Gantoise doubled their lead on the return of the locker room thanks to the inevitable Jonathan David. The 19-year-old Canadian striker scored his eighth goal of the season, ideally served by Roman Yaremchuk after a solid group stage (0-2, 47th). Despite the entrances of Bongonda, Ito and Ndongala, Genk remained sterile offensively.

It is a third defeat in rank for Felice Mazzu's team, beaten in Eupen (2-0) before losing to Liverpool (2-1) in the Champions League. The Gantois sign their first away win in the league.

After the first defeat in the championship of Club Brugge, registered at the beginning of the afternoon at Antwerp (2-1), Standard will have the opportunity to overcome the Gantois and return to three lengths of the Gazelles, which count however one game less. To do this, the Liegeois will have to overcome FC Malines (6th, 24 pts).
