Three years old killed by half sister – motive still unclear

After the death of Dreijhrigen in Detmold in the German state of Norrhein-Westfalen on Wednesday, his half-sister had been taken under suspicion of murder in custody. The investigation lasted on the weekend. A psychological report is imminent, it was the police in Bielefeld.

According to the investigators, the 15-year-old holds for the dead woman, but at the same time refers to memory lapses. According to first findings, the girl had developed a deep aversion to the half-brother. The prosecution had announced that an expert would have to examine whether it was guilty and how his intellectual development was. At 15, the girl is punishable by German law.

His defender Helmut Whler told the newspaper "Westfalen-Blatt" (Saturday) that he was aiming for the fastest possible psychiatric examination of his client in the detention in Iserlohn. When asked if the 15-year-old realized what she had done courageously, Whler answered. "I do not know what it looks like in her." You can not get close to them.

A spokesman for the responsible prosecutor said that the 15-year-old person protection was a central issue. A "picture" report, according to which the girl allegedly smeared messages with blood on the wall after the fact, before it raged, he did not want to comment.

Experts warned against premature conclusions. If someone is not in control of his anger, that is always due to a mix of reasons, said Mareike Schler-Springorum, medical director of the Forensic Psychiatry Center Marsberg in LWL. "That's a complex interaction." The psychotherapist Gisela Dreyer from Bonn emphasized: "Anger is the most intense and difficult to control feeling." Even adults find it difficult to control it. "Control of anger can only be achieved through self-reflection and speech," says Dreyer. Deficits in it could become a problem. Both experts emphasized that so far too little was known about the Detmold case in order to be able to speak specifically about it.

In juvenile delinquents experts would have to clarify various points – for example, whether the offender could understand injustice at all and control his actions, explained Schler-Springorum. Or also, whether there is a mental disorder. In addition, an expert must examine how the person concerned with feelings, frustration or stress with the parents handle. The learning environment in the school should also be highlighted.
