Paris, Nov 10 (Prensa Latina) Unesco Director General Audrey Azoulay called today on World Science Day for Peace and Development to end knowledge control, because it leads to inequality, exclusion and conflicts.

In a global scenario with challenges such as climate change, the preservation of biodiversity and the impact of natural disasters, the progress of scientific knowledge is essential, as well as being inclusive, in line with the principle of leaving no one behind the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, affirmed in its message for the day.Azoulay promoted the concept of 'open science', whereby scientific information, knowledge and data are put at the service of the whole society.

It is about ensuring the participation of scientists, innovators, engineers, entrepreneurs and citizens in the search for solutions, he stressed.

According to the Director-General, on this basis, Unesco selected the theme 'Open science, leave no one behind' as the center of this year's World Day celebration, which was created in 2002 to remember the commitment made at the Conference World Science, 1999 in Budapest.

The organization is ready to lead the dialogue aimed at materializing the aforementioned concept, he said.

In the context of the date, the headquarters of Unesco, in this capital, hosted on Friday a debate on the need to boost open science.

Experts from a dozen countries addressed the challenge, in a forum that was the scene of the delivery to young scientists of the 2019 edition of the Green Chemistry for Life Research Scholarships, an initiative of Unesco, the Russian company PhosAgro? largest producer of phosphate fertilizers in Europe- and the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry (Iupac).
