gam./med. Winter is entering this weekend in Switzerland. Loud MeteoNews fell on Saturday in the Alpine region 10 to 50 inches of fresh snow. The snowfall limit was well below 1000 meters. In the Haslital and in the Urnerland the snow fell even to the valley floor. Already on Friday was in the mountains partly over 50 centimeters of fresh snow. This in Upper Valais, in the upper Bernese Oberland, in northern Ticino as well as in the Central Swiss and Glarus Alps.

During the night on Sunday frosty temperatures of about minus 4.5 degrees (Meiringen) prevailed, as Meteonews announced on Sunday. According to forecasts by SRF Meteo, the air temperature in the night on Monday is also around the zero level in the Central Plateau.

Responsible for the onset of winter is a low over northern Italy, which shovels damp air over the Alps for a few days. Together with the incoming polar air from the north, this reduces the snow line.
