Victory at VfL Wolfsburg: Bayer Leverkusen ends negative series

Bayer 04 Leverkusen have ended their negative series of four winless Bundesliga games with a win against VfL Wolfsburg.

Under the eyes of coach Joachim LOw, Bayer Leverkusen has found its way back to success in the Bundesliga. Five days after their success in the Champions League against Atletico Madrid (2-1), the Rhinelands prevailed at VfL Wolfsburg 2-0 (1-0) and have after four league games without a win again close contact with the international places.

The goals were scored by Karim Bellarabi (25 ') and substitute Paulinho (90' + 6 '). With a bit of luck, Bellarabi fooled the entire VfL back-pack and fired from close range. The home team protested to Marcel Tisserand for an alleged Bellarabi foul, but referee Manuel Grafe scored the goal.

Weak Leverkusen win against Wolfsburg under the eyes of Jogi LOw

LOw and Teresa Enke visited the tomb of ex-national goalkeeper Robert Enke, who had voluntarily left the world ten years ago, and continued his trip to Lower Saxony with a visit to the Volkswagen Arena.

For the hosts it was the seventh competitive game without winning in series. Three days after the 3-1 defeat in the Europa League against KAA Gent, the North Germans were again significantly below their capacity, the 24,112 spectators were unmistakably disappointed. But Bayer was only the slightly better team of two weak teams.

Bayer Leverkusen: Kai Havertz replaced with thigh problems

In a ragged first half, the guests presented themselves more ball-facing, but also more powerful. Even before his first goal Bellarabi could have hit, but pulled the ball just past the left goal post (6). Wolfsburg striker Wout Weghorst missed the possible lead for the hosts in the 23rd minute.

After the break, the picture changed. The North Germans pushed for the equalizer, the charges of coach Peter Bosz were unsettled in this phase. Two changes of staff contributed to this: Bellarabi remained after the half-time break in the cabin, already in the 42nd Minute had to leave Kai Havertz with thigh problems prematurely.

But the Wolfsburg did not reward for their courage to take more offense. Promising actions were always torpedoed by miserable flanks and templates. In a counterattack Nadiem Amiri (56.) missed the preliminary decision for Leverkusen. In the final phase there was again a lot of fragmentation on both sides, clear actions became more and more rare. Weghorst also missed the equalizer (81).
