Cuban swimmer reaches 4th place in the World Cup


The Cuban Elisbet Gamez reached the 4th place in the 400 meter freestyle test in the long-course Swimming World Cup, which ended on November 9 in the city of Doha, Qatar, where she also finished 7th in the final of the 800 meters of the same modality.

The 22-year-old improved her own record in the 400-meter distance by timing 4: 13.05 minutes, to leave behind her own record of 4: 14.70, in a competition dominated by Austrian Marlene Kahler (4: 10.51), while Mikkayla Sheridan (4: 11.63) of Australia and Katja Fain (4: 12.38) of Slovenia, occupied the remaining places on the podium.

In the test of 800 the native of Baracoa, in Guantanamo, recorded 8: 51.85 minutes, 17.20 seconds behind the winner Tjasa Oder, from Slovenia, with 8: 34.65; the second and third place was reached by the Japanese Yumiki Moriyama (8: 37.25) and the Austrian Marlene Kahler (8: 37.79), respectively.

In the 200-meter test, the Cuban woman did not present herself in her best form when she was tenth with a time of 2: 03.43, away from her best brands that placed her runner-up in the Central American and Caribbean Games of Barranquilla 2018, with a record of 1 : 58.55, and 17th in the previous edition of the World Cup, where he timed 1: 58.80.

This year the best result of the athlete was in the XVIII Pan American Games in Lima, where she registered 2: 00.25, valid to reach 5th place in the 200 meters freestyle. Last July during the World Aquatic Sports Championships in Gwangju, South Korea, Elisbet was ranked 20th in the same event, with a similar time of 2: 00.33 minutes.
