The first flakes will appear in southern Quebec on Monday.
Environment Canada is forecasting snow accumulation of 15 to 20 cm by Monday afternoon in the Montreal, Laval, Longueuil and Chateauguay areas.
The regions of Lanaudiere and Estrie will also be affected. Motorists will have to be cautious in the face of difficult road conditions and reduced visibility. Black ice, blowing snow and a rapid accumulation of snow will make travel more complicated.
The Sûrete du Quebec advises Quebeckers to plan their trips accordingly. Motorists who have not yet installed their winter tires are not illegal, but should opt for public transport if possible. It is also suggested to always maintain safe distances between vehicles and to adapt to driving conditions by reducing speed.
The storm will continue until the next morning and reach areas in the eastern part of the province. Indeed, the rush hour promises to be particularly difficult on Tuesday morning, says Environment Canada.
