McElroy and Hewitt conquer gold from the World Triathlon Championship

Tri-athletes Matt McElroy and Andrea Hewitt they won this Sunday the gold medal of the male and female branches in the World Triathlon Championship held at Sans Souci beach, Punta Torrecilla, Villa Duarte sector, Municipality Santo Domingo Este.

McElroy, winner of the gold medal for the United States, won the elite category with a time of 1:39:03 in the course of the three triathlon specialties such as swimming (1,500 meters), cycling (40 kilometers) and running-athletics (10 kms).

The spiky tri-athletes headed the American trilogy that occupied the first three places of the World Cup, in which Kevin McDowell came in second place, who won the silver medal with a 1:39:22 mark, and Morgan Pearson , he kept the bronze with 1:39:31.

While in the women's branch the gold medal went to Hewitt, from New Zealand, who obtained the first position in the elite category by registering a time of 1:34:35 when swimming (1,500 meters), cycling (40 kilometers) ) and running-athletics (5 kms).

The silver medal was awarded by Taylor Knibb, of the United States, to achieve a record of 1:39:41, and Claudia Rivas, of Mexico, finished with 1:39:49.

The first place awards in the two branches were led by the Vice President of the International Triathlon Union (ITU); along with Antonio Acosta, first vice president of the Dominican Olympic Committee (COD); Franklin de la Cruz, president of the Dominican Triathlon Federation (Fedotri); and Luis Colpo Heredia, representative of the Ministry of Sports.

As well as the ship's captain Jose Angel Toribio Cambero, logistics director; Manuel -Ney- Lora, vice president of Fedotri; and corvette captain Edward Santana, director of security; and the ITU technical delegate, Gustavo Svane, among others.

At the exit of the men, at 7:00 in the morning, Luis Mejia Oviedo, president of the COD and member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) attended. The women left at 9:15 in the morning.

In the Triathlon World Championship, 125 athletes participated, both in the male and female branches, from 25 countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Switzerland, China, United States, Brazil, Austria, Argentina, Philippines, France, Japan, Cuba and Port Rich.
