NEW YORK (AP) – Nikki Haley, former US ambassador to the UN, reveals in his new memoir that two Donald Trump government officials tried to convince her on one occasion to oppose the president’s policies with them .

In "With All Due Respect," Haley says that former Secretary of State Rex Tillerson and former White House office chief John Kelly told him they were trying to "save the country."

Haley writes that he was "shocked" by the request, made during a closed meeting, and thought they were only trying to leave their own mark on presidential policies.

"Kelly and Tillerson trusted me that when they opposed the president, they were not being insubordinate, but trying to save the country," Haley wrote. “It was their decisions, not those of the president, that were better for the United States, they said. The president didn't know what he was doing ”… Tillerson then told me that the reason he resisted the president's decisions was because, if he didn't, there were people who were going to die.”

The former governor of South Carolina said the meeting lasted more than an hour and that they never spoke to her again.

Haley's book goes on sale Tuesday. The Associated Press bought a pre-sale copy.

"Instead of saying that to me, they should have told the president, not asking me to join his parallel plan," Haley wrote. "It should have been:‘ Go and plant the differences you have with the president, and resign if you don't like what he is doing. " But undermining a president is really a very dangerous thing. And it goes against the Constitution, and goes against what the American people want. And it was offensive. ”

Trump fired Tillerson in March 2018. Later, he said the president was "undisciplined" and did not like reading reports. The president responded by saying that Tillerson was "very dumb."

When asked for a reaction to Haley's book, Kelly told CBS that “if, when talking about resistance and blockages, she refers to establishing a process for the staff … to ensure that (the president) knew all the points for and against any political decision that I might be weighing so that I could make an informed decision, so I am guilty as I am accused. ”

Haley resigned from the US embassy to the UN at the end of 2018. She was considered one of the strongest figures in the Trump administration and was an efficient enforcer of President Trump's isolationist policies since her complicated role in the UN.

Also, Ambassador Haley was the true scourge of Trump at the UN, where she has not hesitated to echo the controversial words of the US president against Iran, North Korea, Venezuela or even the institution itself, to which it arrived to accuse of not being fair to Israel.

Haley acknowledged some political disagreements with Trump in an opinion article in the Washington Post last month, when he criticized a senior anonymous official who wrote in The New York Times describing a chaotic administration and warning that White House aides were not I agree on many things with Trump.

"I don't agree with the president at all," Haley wrote. "When there is disagreement, there is a right way and an incorrect way to address it. I pick up the phone and call him or meet him in person."
