The president of Cuba, Miguel Diaz-Canel, said that the world must mobilize to preserve the physical integrity and freedom of Evo Morales, victim of a coup d'etat promoted by the Bolivian right.
In the afternoon of today Morales announced his resignation to prevent the escalation of violence, attacks and aggressions promoted by opposition leaders Carlos Mesa and Fernando Camacho against their colleagues in the Movement for Socialism.
The right-wing parties of that country refuse to recognize the result of the elections of last October 20 in which the first indigenous president of the Andean nation was reelected, and have been developing for several weeks an escalation of violent actions that intensified during The last days.
This Saturday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Cuba published a Declaration in which it strongly denounced the coup and expressed the firm support of the Cuban government and people to Evo Morales, and the Change Process that this leads in favor of the great majorities.
The document calls on the International Community to side with the legality and peace, in observance of International Law and the postulates of the Proclamation of Latin America and the Caribbean as a Zone of Peace, and condemn this coup adventure of imperialism and the oligarchy.
