The new Davis Cup formula has set a new record. Not sure that the organizers or players of the match between the pair Sock-Querrey and Fognini-Bolelli are very happy. Still, the decisive double between the United States and Italy will remain in the annals as the most recent match in the history of the competition.
Started at 1:25 in the morning, the match ended at 4:04, erasing the tablets at the same time the match between Victor Pecci and Aaron Krickstein on March 16, 1987, concluded on a Paraguayan victory at 2:35 in the morning. The four unfortunate have therefore made even stronger, Sock and Querrey having the last word with a success wrenched hard struggle (6-7, 7-6, 6-4).
And if the four men finished with a smile, the two teams have probably ended with this edition of the Davis Cup. If the elimination of Italy is acquired, it would take a lot of circumstances for the United States to win their ticket as a better second. At least they played the game which was not the case of the Australians, already qualified for the quarter-finals after the two successes acquired by Nick Kyrgios against Steve Darcis (6-2, 7- 6) and Alex De Minaur against David Goffin (6-0, 7-6). Pretending a small injury John Peers, the pair Peers-Thomspon has indeed withdrawn after only one game.
