Sporting and FC Porto will meet in the semi-finals of the Portuguese Basketball Cup, on April 10, in Matosinhos, after a Benfica-Immortal, dictated the draw today held in Lisbon.
The first two classified in the regular phase of the League will therefore not be able to play a third final in 2020/21, after the triumph of the ‘lions’ in the 2019/20 Portuguese Cup, postponed for this season, and of the ‘dragons’ in the Hugo dos Santos Cup.
On October 8, 2020, in Odivelas, Sporting beat FC Porto 87-78, winning the Portuguese Cup 40 years later, and on February 7, in Sines, the ‘blues and whites’ won the ‘green and white’ by 72-68.
In the championship, there was also a triumph for each side, with the ‘lions’ imposing themselves at home by 63-57, on December 29, 2020, and the ‘dragons’ responding in Porto with a victory by 81 -78, on March 7th.
Before the match between Sporting and FC Porto, scheduled for 17:30, they face Benfica, third in the regular phase of the League, and Imortal, fourth, at 15:00.
In the championship matches, the ‘red’ won in Luz by 97-84, on October 17, 2020, but the Algarve responded in Albufeira, imposing themselves by 93-86, after extra time, in a match played on January 17.
The winners of the two meetings qualify for the April 11 final, scheduled for 4pm.
In the trophies of the Portuguese Cup, Benfica is the leader, with 22 trophies, followed by FC Porto, with 14, while Sporting, holder of the title, adds six. For his part, the Immortal will try to become the 19th team to win the competition.
