Spain recorded 8,534 cases of covid-19 in the last 24 hours, bringing the total number of infected people in the country to 3,284,353 so far, on a day when contagions rose again to a value considered high risk.
According to data released daily by the Spanish Ministry of Health, another 154 deaths attributed to covid-19 were also counted, bringing the total number of deaths to 75,459.
The level of accumulated incidence (contagions) in Spain today rose again to values considered high risk, above 150 cases, more precisely from 147 (Tuesday) to 152, diagnosed per 100,000 inhabitants in the previous 14 days.
The regions with the highest levels are Madrid (265), Basque Country (242), Catalonia (200), Asturias (162) and Aragon (147).
In the last 24 hours, 1,001 people with the disease were admitted to hospitals across the country (1,027 on Tuesday), of which 249 in Catalonia, 141 in Madrid and 170 in Andalusia.
On the other hand, the number of hospitalized with the covid-19 rose to 8,083 (8,065), which corresponds to 7% of the beds, of which 1,831 patients in intensive care units (1,844), 19% of the beds in this service.
The covid-19 pandemic caused at least 2,805,004 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 128.1 million cases of infection, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.
In Portugal, 16,848 people died from 821,722 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health.
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
