DJI FPV sports drone introduced for $ 1299, which allows you to see the flight from the first person

As expected, DJI has unveiled its first self-contained FPV sports drone, allowing you to experience first-person flight with minimal delays and great videos. $ 1299, FPV Goggles V2 helmet and traditional controller included, groundbreaking motion controller, new communication standard, 4K / 60p video support – all this and much more brings a new solution.

“Man has always dreamed of flying. We have worked for over ten years to make these dreams come true. And take it a step further by creating a device that lets you experience the realistic feeling of flying. Introducing DJI FPV – the world’s first ready-made FPV dronethat will allow pilots of all skill levels to truly immerse themselves in flight. We’ve made first person flying a truly memorable experience with the DJI Motion Controller, a compact device that allows you to control the flight using the natural movement of your hands “, – the company said in a commercial:

For starters, the drone supports 4K video at 60fps (H.265, 120Mbps) with an ultra-wide camera angle of 150 ° (aperture – f / 2.8, auto focus from 0.6m to ∞). The sensor here is even smaller than in the Mavic Air: 1 / 2.3 “CMOS at 12MP. Photos are only supported in JPEG format, but this is a sports drone, so the image quality and advanced shooting capabilities in difficult conditions are secondary.

The mechanical gimbal works only on one tilt axis (versus three in most DJI drones), but due to the ultra-wide 150 ° viewing angle, distortion correction and the advanced electronic RockSteady stabilizer, smooth footage is achieved even with sharp turns.

Another important innovation is the improved standard for transmitting video streams from the drone to the DJI O3 helmet (OcuSync 3.0). It allows you to stream in HD 810p with a bitrate of up to 50 Mbps at 120 frames / s and delays below 28 ms (the helmet has its own slot for memory cards to record the incoming signal). At the same time, communication is still supported at a maximum distance of up to 10 km in FCC mode (in Russia, only CE mode is available – up to 6 km). The high sensitivity antennas are equipped with three transmitters and four receivers to amplify the signal for more stable and reliable video transmission.

It is important to note that the gimbal camera, landing gear and top cover are all part of the DJI FPV modular design. They are easily replaceable, making repairs easier (an important feature for a sports drone). Aerodynamic drone DJI FPV weighing 795 grams can be in flight for up to 20 minutes (hang in one place – up to 16 minutes). Its top speed in M mode can reach an impressive 140 km / h (39 m / s). At the same time, the device is capable of accelerating to 100 km / h in just 2 seconds under ideal conditions. The maximum wind speed during flight can reach 13.5 m / s.

A slightly less extreme S mode is provided, combining the freedom of manual flight with the simplified control of other DJI drones. It makes it easier and safer to create dynamic first-person videos. There is also the N mode, in which you can control the drone in the usual format – special safety functions like obstacle detection work here (it is available in front and below). However, here the maximum speed is already decreasing to 15 m / s.

A special mention should be made of the DJI FPV motion controller, which is not included in the kit, but is purchased separately for $ 199. This compact device allows you to control the drone using natural hand movements. According to DJI, this is a completely new way to fly. Both when using a regular controller and a motion controller, there is an emergency brake button, when pressed, the drone, being in any mode and moving at any speed, will stop and hover within a few seconds. Other features include bottom assist light, smart home return, low battery return.

DJI FPV also has built-in Automatic Dependent Surveillance (ADS-B). The system receives information about the location of manned drones nearby and sends a warning to the V2 goggles, which makes it possible to avoid collisions with other drones. In addition to the motion controller and the drone itself, the company presented the traditional Fly More kit: for an additional $ 299, the buyer gets two additional batteries and a three-battery charger.

FPV-type sports drones, as a rule, are not equipped with a GPS receiver, such an advanced communication system, any kind of gimbal, automatic return to home, emergency hovering and hybrid flight modes. Those interested can watch one of the first drone reviews:
