Installation of new ATMs delayed by almost a year | NOW

The rollout of the joint ATMs of the major banks ABN AMRO, ING and Rabobank has been delayed by almost a year due to the corona crisis. In the original planning, all bank ATMs should have been replaced by the yellow Money sizes by the end of 2020. If all goes well, that will now be before the end of this year, a spokesperson for Geldmaat told when asked.

It is not the first time that the installation of the machines has been delayed. That also happened during the first corona wave. “Last summer we hoped to pick up the pace and catch up. The revival of the virus is causing a setback,” said the spokesman.

Yet many people will have become familiar with the striking yellow machines in the streets. “About 3,250 have now been placed,” says the Geldmaat spokesperson. That is almost 65 percent of the planned 5,200 Money measures.

Due to the corona crisis, the planning of the installation of the devices has become more complex. “We have to take into account the measures that prevent work from being carried out simultaneously,” the spokesperson explains. “The planning has been disrupted for a year now due to the corona crisis.”

Searching for suitable locations takes time

In addition to the pandemic, finding suitable locations in Geldmaat is also a problem. “Landlords or shop owners must agree to it,” the spokesperson explains. But because of the fear of an explosive attack, not everyone wants to have an ATM nearby. “We also no longer place Geldmaten in shopping areas with above occupancy.”

Banks have previously closed many vending machines as a result of explosive attacks. Part of it will no longer be used, but will be replaced by a nearby Geldmaat.

Cash deposit machines are also reopening

Geldmaat and the banks closed all cash deposit machines at the beginning of this year because of the explosions and on the advice of the police. They will open again from Wednesday. Initially, this involves 250 units, after which 10 to 15 machines will be added every week.

According to Geldmaat, “a structural solution for securely packed cash deposits in a seal bag machine” has been worked out together with the banks. Entrepreneurs are informed about this by their bank.
