Pfizer makes layoffs at the distribution center in Belgium and moves a department to Romania

Pfizer has announced that it will lay off 38 of its 238 employees at its distribution center in Zaventem, Belgium. The reason invoked by the group is the move of the supply planning department to Bucharest, reports the daily “La Libre Belgique”.

The unions said they were shocked by the announcement, made during the pandemic.

“We do not understand the choice of Pfizer at all. (…) The use of redundancies in the context of the current health situation is a slap in the face for all Pfizer employees who participate in the company’s success and who, among other things, contribute to the production of vaccines against Covid, “said Michel Barbuto, CNE union representative.

“We are constantly trying to optimize the organization of the global supply chain. We are currently exploring options that will allow us to further centralize our resources, improve process efficiency, and continue to provide the best services. This could lead to the redistribution of a defined number of supply chain functions within our extended network, “said the group’s spokesman in Belgium.

The union also states that Pfizer paid 8.4 billion euros in dividends in 2020. A slightly higher figure than in previous years, taking into account the group’s financial reports. The total amount of dividends was 8 billion in 2018 and 2019 and 7.7 billion in 2017.
