The Amsterdam Vondelpark was evacuated on Wednesday evening. People flocked to the park to enjoy the sun, but not everyone adhered to the corona measures. Police have arrested two people suspected of throwing bottles at officers.
People have been denied access to the park since 2.45 p.m., but to no avail.
According to a municipal spokesman, people went to a monument in the park at the beginning of the evening. There they would have been too close together in large groups. People would also have become aggressive.
After several warnings by police and enforcement, it has been decided to evacuate the park, the spokesman said.
The Vondelpark has been evacuated more often in recent weeks due to crowds and the breaking of the corona rules. In February, this was also once accompanied by violence towards the police. Even then bottles were thrown.
A reporter from Het Parool captured the hustle and bustle in the Vondelpark.
Parks are also busy in other cities
Not only in Amsterdam, measures have been taken due to crowds. An alcohol ban has been in force for an indefinite period since 3 p.m. in the Arnhem Park Sonsbeek. This is also a response to large groups of young people who gathered there.
In Utrecht and The Hague, the white circles return to the grass. The circles ensure that the different visitors keep sufficient distance from each other. When there are no more circles free, the park is full. Enforcers and police send people away and, if necessary, people are fined.
