The RIVM registered 51,866 positive corona tests in the past week, more than 13 percent more than in the previous seven days (46,005). At the same time, a lot more people also got tested: the GGDs conducted more than 552,000 tests in the past seven days compared to 519,000 the week before. The percentage of positive tests rose from 8.1 percent to 8.5 percent, according to the weekly figures.
According to the RIVM, these numbers indicate that “all hands are in red”. In the last week update, the RIVM also warned that the situation in the Netherlands is deteriorating. According to a spokesman, this trend is continuing.
The overall reproduction number did drop slightly from 1.11 to 1.07. This means that a group of 100 infected Dutch people would currently infect 107 others and the number of new infections in the country is increasing.
Infections among nursing home residents continues to decrease
The number of infections among nursing home and residential care center residents is decreasing further. Among people living at home from the age of 70, the number of reports rose by 163 per 100,000 inhabitants for the third week in a row.
In the past week, 1,578 people with the coronavirus were admitted to hospital, 65 more admissions than the week before. 317 people were admitted to the intensive care units (ic), which is also about the same in the week before.
