Indonesian Ministry of Transport Spokesperson Adita Irawati said in a statement that the black box containing the cockpit voice recordings of the plane was found during the search efforts in the area where the plane crashed.
Adita, who did not give detailed information about when the black box was found and its situation, stated that the Minister of Transport Budi Karya Sumadi and the Head of the National Transport Security Committee (KNKT) Soerjanto Tjahjono will make a press release on the issue.
The preliminary report, published on February 10, revealed that the crash could be due to a malfunctioning automatic throttle, in the preliminary report of the first black box removed from the wreck on 12 January and containing flight data records.
In the meantime, while investigations on the exact cause of the aircraft’s downfall continued, 5 pieces, including the automatic throttle controlling the engine power, were sent to the USA and England on February 2.
It was announced that the communication was cut off approximately 5 minutes after the takeoff, and the “SJ182” flight numbered Boeing 737-500 passenger plane, with 50 passengers and 12 crew members, crashed between Laki and Lancang Island off the northern coast of Jakarta on January 9, and there were no survivors.
