In 2021, the construction and reconstruction of 11 stations at the MCD will be completed. This was announced by Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, who on Wednesday examined the progress of reconstruction work on the Kalanchevskaya – Kurskaya railroad section.
According to him, work is needed to launch the fourth route of the Moscow Central Diameters (MCD-4). To date, the site is 45% ready, the mayor added. He expressed the hope that it will be fully implemented in 2023.
The mayor also said that the work will require restrictions on MCD-2: “From the end of May this year until May 2022, there will be certain traffic restrictions.” Sobyanin called MCD-4 the most demanded and most voluminous project of all MCD projects.
“To launch the fourth diameter, it is necessary to widen the narrowest and most problematic throat on the railroad at the Moscow junction. This is the Kursk-Kalanchevsky corridor, which connects these two stations, ”explained Sobyanin.
The press service of the mayor’s office said that the project for the reconstruction of the Kalanchevskaya – Kursk MZD section provides for an increase in the section’s capacity by two times – from 178 to 353 pairs of trains per day, which will allow organizing the movement of MCD-4 Kievsko-Gorkovsky trains.
To reduce the load on the section, long-distance trains will be transferred to the new Vostochny railway station, which will be open to passengers on May 29.
