Permaisuri: A seven -month pregnant mother died after the vehicle she was riding in hit a tree in Kampung Bari Kecil, at 2.50 this morning.
Setiu District Police Chief, Deputy Superintendent Afandi Hussin said Nurul Surianie Zahazani, 25, with her husband, Muhammad Shafiq Shahrizan Mazlan, 25, were driving a Proton Wira on the way back from Kuala Terengganu to Kampung Mangkok, Penarik, Setiu.
“Preliminary investigations found the accident is believed to have occurred when the driver lost control and skidded before hitting a tree.
“The Setiu traffic complaints counter received a call at 2.50am informing that the fatal incident occurred at Kilometer (KM) 55 Jalan Kuala Terengganu to Kota Bharu in Kampung Bari Kecil.
“The driver and passengers were taken to Setiu Hospital for further treatment. At 4.10am, Setiu Hospital informed that the passenger died and the driver with head injuries was sent to Sultanah Nur Zahirah Hospital (HSNZ) for further treatment,” he said when contacted today.
Afandi said the case was investigated according to Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act (APJ).
Meanwhile, a friend of the deceased who declined to be named said, Nurul Surianie managed to upload her status on WhatsApp expressing her happiness to be able to walk around Kuala Terengganu from morning to night despite being pregnant with her first child.
“The deceased got married in August last year and he is a good friend, quick to get along with anyone.
“He runs an online business part -time, also someone who never gives up,” she said.
