The Canalys company has summed up the results of the study of the global market for wireless headphones of various types and all kinds of wearable gadgets in 2020. Despite the pandemic and a difficult economic environment, the industry maintains a positive development momentum.
In the segment of smart personal audio devices, to which Canalys classifies wireless on-ear and submersible headphones (including the fully wireless TWS models), in 2020 recorded an increase of approximately 20%. The final result is 432 million devices delivered.
The rapid development of the TWS-products segment continues: the share of such devices in the total mass of sold wireless headphones reached 59% in 2020 against 45% a year earlier.
The industry leaders in wireless audio are Apple, Samsung and Xiaomi with shares of 25.2%, 8.9% and 5.9%, respectively.
The category of wearable gadgets, which analysts include fitness bracelets and smartwatches, saw a 10 percent increase last year, reaching 185 million units per unit.
In this segment, the leadership belongs to Xiaomi with a share of 20.3%. Then there are Apple and Huawei with 19.0% and 17.4% respectively.
