There should not be a new catastrophe

Suara.com – President Joko Widodo again emphasized the importance of disaster prevention and mitigation aspects as the main key in reducing disaster risk.

“I always say repeatedly about prevention, prevention, don’t be late, don’t be late,” said Jokowi during the inauguration of the opening of the Disaster Management Coordination Meeting at the State Palace, Jakarta, Wednesday (3/3/2021).

Jokowi said that the aspects of prevention and mitigation are important, so that we can carry out well-planned anticipations.

“Don’t let us be just reactive when a disaster occurs,” he said.

Therefore, said Jokowi, national policies and policies in the regions must be sensitive to the vulnerability of disasters in the region. The reason is that he does not want when there is a disaster, all parties blame each other.

“Therefore, national policies and regional policies must be sensitive to disaster vulnerability. We don’t want to have a new disaster, we hurry, make noise or even blame each other. Such things should not happen,” he said.

Not only that, the Head of State said that the government had a Master Plan for Disaster Management 2020-2024 through Presidential Regulation Number 87 of 2020.

“The important point is not only to stop having a grand design in the long term, but the grand design must be able to be derived in policies, in plans. Including sensitive spatial planning and paying attention to aspects of disaster vulnerability,” he said.

“And of course it is continued with audits and control of policies and spatial planning that run in the field, not on paper alone. This is what I have repeatedly conveyed,” he continued.
