In Tatarstan Zelenodolsk, investigators opened three criminal cases on the fact of an explosion in an apartment building.
As reported in the RF IC, the cases were initiated under Part 1 of Art. 109 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing death by negligence). In addition, two more criminal cases were initiated on the grounds of crimes under Part 1 of Art. 118 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (causing grievous bodily harm by negligence), part 1 of Art. 293 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation (negligence).
The gas explosion occurred last night in a nine-story building on Lenin Street in Zelenodolsk. As a result, several apartments were destroyed. An 87-year-old man died on the spot, five people were injured, and later a pensioner died in intensive care.
According to preliminary data, on the day of the tragedy, relatives took the elderly owner of the apartment, where the explosion took place, to a neuropsychiatric dispensary with complaints that he abuses alcohol, behaves inappropriately, and threatens to destroy the apartment. But the staff of the institution refused to admit him to hospital.
According to local media sources, a drinking pensioner with depression due to the death of his relatives had already turned on the gas a few hours before the explosion. His granddaughter stopped him, called emergency services, and the elderly man was taken to a mental hospital. He returned home that evening.
