Altos introduced new servers, storage systems, workstations and a thin client to the Russian market / ServerNews


Altos presented in Russia a number of new products intended for small and medium-sized businesses. Reliable and high-performance devices of the company will help corporate clients in solving computing problems of almost any complexity.

Altos Computing Inc., a subsidiary of Acer, announced for the Russian market a number of new products intended for the small and medium-sized business segment. Altos specializes in the design and manufacture of solutions for modern IT infrastructure, including servers, workstations, thin clients and storage systems.

Altos began delivering hardware and software to Russia in May 2020, actively developing cooperation with Russian partners in the B2B segment and offering them solutions taking into account their tasks and individual characteristics. Altos’ customers include cloud service providers, corporate customers, government organizations and educational institutions.

Acer, the parent company of Altos, pays great attention to supporting small and medium-sized businesses, including through the launch of special programs. For example, the Reliability Program: Double Capital Protection was specially designed by Acer for the corporate segment. Members in the case of purchasing Acer products from an approved list are entitled to a 100% refund of the purchase price if a technical malfunction is found in the corresponding product and repairs are made under warranty during the program period. The program applies to new professional products purchased between February 1, 2021 and January 31, 2022 inclusive.

Among the new products announced by Altos are two-processor servers R389 F4 and R385 F4 of the BrainSphere series, made in a 2U form factor. The R389 F4 uses second generation Intel Xeon processors. The server has 24 DDR4 memory slots, 24 hot-swappable 2.5 “SATA / SAS drive bays and 8 PCIe 3.0 slots for low-profile expansion cards. The device has an efficient power system with 80 PLUS certification and has all the necessary ports. for connecting peripherals and components, including 2 OCP slots.

The R385 F4 model is equipped with AMD EPYC 7002 or 7001 series processors with 64 cores and 8 memory channels (per socket). It has 32 slots for DDR4 memory modules and 26 bays for 2.5 “drives. The power system of the device consists of two PSUs certified according to the 80 PLUS Platinum standard.

Also presented was a two-processor server Altos R369 F4 in a 1U form factor based on Intel Xeon chips, with the ability to install up to 24 DDR4 memory modules and up to ten 2.5 “hot-swappable drives. With a compact size, the model is characterized by high processing power. The server is powered by up to 2 1200 W power supplies with 80 PLUS Titanium certification, and 8 fans are used for cooling.

New storage systems included the Altos XS5226D and XD5312D. Altos XS5226D – storage for SAN (Storage Area Network) in a 2U form factor with 26 slots for 2.5 “drives, two Active-Active controllers, modular design and support for fast replacement of FRU modules. The novelty is characterized by high performance, suitable for creating systems Enterprise backup with an Intel Xeon D processor optimized for SAN and cloud storage, and support for SAS storage (up to 12 Gb / s).

The Altos XD5312D is a 12-bay 2.5 “/ 3.5” DAS or JBOD storage system ideal for expanding server space. The storage system is equipped with two controllers, has up to 10 ports, and supports the SAS interface (up to 12 Gb / s). The model is designed for operations requiring fast data transfer, including video processing, computing, cloud storage, data streaming, and workload virtualization. Both storage models support FRU technology, as well as hot-swappable power supplies and cooling fans.

Altos BrainSphere P330 F4 and P550 F4 workstations were also announced. Altos BrainSphere P330 F4 is positioned as an ideal solution for performing various calculations and rendering, able to cope with work projects of any complexity, which is suitable for companies engaged in engineering, design, digital content creation, financial analytics and various research. Device specifications include Intel Skylake-W processors, up to 512GB of DDR4 RAM and 6 drive bays allowing, as well as USB 3.0 and 3.1 ports for connecting external devices.

The Altos BrainSphere P550 F4 model can use two powerful Intel processors and up to 16 RAM modules with a total volume of up to 2 TB, as well as two professional NVIDIA Quadro video cards. It supports up to 10 SATA3 drives, has two high-speed 10Gbps Ethernet network ports, and offers a suite of software to quickly deploy AI development environments.

In addition, the company introduced an Altos T430 thin client based on an Intel Celeron J4105 / J4125 processor with 4 GB of RAM and a 64 GB solid-state drive, with the ability to connect two monitors with a resolution of up to 3840 × 2160 pixels. The T430 is compact, so it can be placed in any workplace or even mounted behind a monitor. Passive cooling is used, which ensures quiet operation and minimal power consumption of Altos T430.
