Joe Biden promises $ 235 million in support of the Palestinians and reiterates the desire for a two-state solution.
President Joe Biden on Wednesday resumed US assistance to the Palestinians, which was halted by former President Donald Trump.
The Biden government thus promises 235 million dollars – almost 1.5 billion Danish kroner – in support, just as Biden says that he will push for a two-state solution.
The State Department says the United States will contribute $ 150 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA). In addition, $ 75 million in financial assistance to the West Bank and Gaza Strip and $ 10 million for peace-building operations.
At the same time, the White House states in a statement that Joe Biden supports a two-state solution to the conflict between Israel and the Palestinians.
This was confirmed by Biden, according to the White House, in a telephone conversation with Jordan’s King Abdullah on Wednesday.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken says U.S. aid to the Palestinians “serves important U.S. interests and values as a means of moving forward with negotiations on a two-state solution.”
“The assistance provides critical relief to those in great need, promotes economic development and supports Israeli-Palestinian understanding, security coordination and stability,” Blinken said in a statement.
