China has detected 24 cases of covid-19 in the past 24 hours, including 11 from local contagion, in the southwestern province of Yunnan, Chinese health officials announced.
Yunnan has added 76 cases since last week, all in the city of Ruili, which borders Myanmar (formerly Burma). The authorities isolated Ruili and started a campaign to test and vaccinate the entire population – about 300 thousand inhabitants.
The remaining 13 cases were diagnosed in travelers from abroad in the city of Shanghai (east) and in the provinces of Guangdong (southeast), Jiangsu (east), Inner Mongolia (north) and Shaanxi (northwest).
The China Health Commission said the total number of active cases was 263, including two in serious condition. Since the beginning of the covid-19, the country recorded 90,365 cases of the disease and 4,636 deaths.
A pandemic covid-19 caused at least 2,862,002 deaths worldwide, resulting from more than 131.7 million cases of infection, according to a report made by the French agency AFP.
In Portugal, 16,887 people died from 824,368 confirmed cases of infection, according to the most recent bulletin from the Directorate-General for Health.
The disease is transmitted by a new coronavirus detected in late 2019 in Wuhan, a city in central China.
