A study by the University of Bath also revealed that it is stressful for men when they are the only ones who earn money financially.

New research has shown that the impact that the financial situation has in relationships is more complicated than previously thought

– Generations ago, in many cultures, a man was expected to be the head of the family, the one who would bring money home. Masculinity is closely related to meeting that expectation. Now that they are facing a change in which it can happen that women earn more, men can feel more stress – said Joanna Sirda, who researched this phenomenon.

A study conducted at Bath University claims that stress increases in men when a woman contributes more than 40 percent to the household budget.

The lives of more than six thousand heterosexual couples, who have been married for more than 15 years or live together, were analyzed and conclusions were drawn based on a review of the information gathered. The bottom line is that when there is a financial imbalance in a relationship, it can affect the decisions people make on a daily basis.

A study by the University of Bath also revealed that it is stressful for men when they are the only ones who earn money financially.

Men are happier when both partners contribute financially to the household budget, but when they are the ones who support the family. The perfect proportion of contributions is 60 percent to, roughly, 40 percent that a woman should make.
