Driver Rinus van Kalmthout breaks his finger with a big crash | Motorsport

The 20-year-old Dutchman lost control of his Chevrolet in Indianapolis when his car hit the grass on the inside of the famous circuit. Then the car spun to the other side of the track where the car crashed into the wall.

“An ugly side wind caused me to be thrown against the wall,” said Van Kalmthout afterwards. “I have a broken finger, but I can continue testing. I’m sorry for my team, because these days are meant to do as many laps as possible and I think it’s a great shame that we can’t do that now. ”

‘Veekay’ started his first season in the IndyCar Series last year with two crashes, but recovered well, including fifth, fourth and third place in races and one pole position. He also caused a sensation with the fourth place on the grid in the Indy 500. The North Hollander finished in fourteenth place in the IndyCar classification. This made Van Kalmthout the best rookie (debutant) of the year.

The new IndyCar Series season kicks off April 18 with the Alabama Grand Prix at Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham.
