Spring is a transitional period for the body, and therefore peptic ulcer disease can be exacerbated during this period. This was reported to the Rosbalt correspondent by Lyudmila Teterina, a gastroenterologist from St. Petersburg.
“Peptic ulcer disease is a chronic disease, the cause of which is the imbalance between the factors of defense and aggression. The activity of gastric juice begins to destroy the walls of the stomach, and this happens for several reasons. Firstly, in the spring, our diet changes – there are few fruits and vegetables in the diet, and there may not be enough vitamins and elements necessary for the natural renewal of the gastric mucosa. Some people start to follow strict diets in order to lose weight by summer, which further reduces the activity of the immune system and causes chronic stress, ”the expert notes.
All these factors, she said, lead to an increase in the production of hydrochloric acid in the stomach, which damages the mucous membrane. This is how the inflammatory process begins, which contributes to the easy penetration of the Helicobacter pylori bacteria into the stomach.
“Patients with peptic ulcer disease need to carry out preventive treatment – both during the period of seasonal exacerbations and during the period of individual exacerbation. With an exacerbation, it is important to adjust the diet and composition of the diet, to lead a correct lifestyle. It is necessary to stop smoking and drinking alcohol, in some cases – from taking drugs with ulcerogenic action, ”the expert recommended.
During an exacerbation, you should not work at night and travel on business trips with a change in time zone. You need to eat in small portions 5-6 times a day in a relaxed atmosphere, slowly and thoroughly chewing food. It is better to cook and bake products without spices, excluding very cold and hot dishes, fried, spicy and smoked ones.
