Before he became a television man, Edi brandabura was an online content creator. While studying journalism, he also dealt with the funny content he created for his Youtube channel, where he gathered a consistent community. In 2019, the year we elected our president, he hit the ground running with a video that went viral immediately.
Edi is now a reporter for PRO TV News and, at the same time, he shows his creativity on vlog, where he continues to produce entertainment videos. Television journalism challenges him and keeps him constantly hooked, and in the station he works for, he says he has only found people who inspire him to get better.
“What I’m trying to do now is keep 5 principles: truth, balance, objectivity, creativity and enthusiasm. I don’t know if that’s what it takes to be a good reporter, but it’s what I do to be more and more the best “.
Edi brandabura he is part of the new generation of journalists and has been working for PRO TV for a year and a half. With him we continue our series, in which we meet the people who appear on the glass and we find out how their journey to television went.
I like to say about myself that I am a video content creator. I post for nice people who follow me on YouTube and do journalism for people who want to know what’s going on around the world. I like going to the theater, the sea is my favorite and I always do what keeps me happy. I am from Sfântu Gheorghe, Covasna and here I discovered my first passions with which I left with life. Before I moved to Bucharest, I started acting and I was sure that this is what I want to do all my life. And do you know that word from home, that it doesn’t match the one at the fair? It applied perfectly to me too.
I failed the admission and I had to choose the alternative, which was journalism. I planned to stay only a year, enough to prepare to give again for the theater, but one year it was two, then three – and all this time this profession stuck to me. I got hired and that’s what I do now – I’m a reporter for ProTV News and, at the same time, I download my creative energy on vlog, where I make entertainment videos. So I can say that I didn’t choose to do TV and online, but they chose me (hahaha).
How the television story began
For me, some planets have lined up and I can say that I was lucky when it comes to my TV debut. I saw an ad on the net that caught my attention – a meeting at college with a journalist from Pro and the possibility of starting an internship with them. I hadn’t worked in the field before and I said that it would only be good for me to gain some more experience and work. Again, the bill at home did not match what I found at the fair. In fact, they were looking to hire a reporter on the night shift. He gave me a bit of a comma, because I didn’t know then that you work day and night in a news department.
About 15-20 people signed up for a list to be called for an interview. I said try my luck and put my name among them. After a few days, when I almost forgot that I was on that list, I received a phone call: “… from HR, from Pro. We’d like to call you for an interview – you applied for a reporter on the night shift. ” I accepted directly, without thinking, the day and time they scheduled me, I didn’t even care what schedule I had. Everything went well and I got hired, and now I’ve been working here for a year and a half.
What it takes to be a good reporter
What I am trying to do now is to maintain 5 principles: truth, balance, objectivity, creativity and enthusiasm. I don’t know if that’s what it takes to be a good reporter, but that’s what I do to be better and better.
The importance of personal branding in your profession
Nothing out of the ordinary. On social media they are exactly as they are in real life. So I keep one principle: the truth. I don’t do or say anything other than I would say if we saw each other face to face.
The community that follows you online
I think people who follow me on Instagram and Youtube are interested in my lifestyle. People who look alike gather and ask that my followers have principles similar to mine, laugh at the same jokes, have common passions with mine, and even a similar lifestyle. I always start my sentences on Youtube with “Friends”, because that’s how I consider them. I see from the comments and messages that we resemble and empathize.
Television in the digital age
He survives harder and harder and this can be seen. That’s why most shows are rebroadcast online. Or at least parts of them. If you watch an online show, you are not interrupted by advertising. People no longer have patience and then many prefer to pay, as it saves time and watches content without ads. If I knew the winning mix for a show to be successful, I would probably do that show now :). Instead, I know the winning mix for me – to work in an environment with people so good as to inspire me to do my job to the fullest potential. When the best work together, they are inspired by each other to do an excellent job and from here you can see the results. Maybe I found the perfect mix (hahaha).
The most challenging pandemic emissions
The evenings when the authorities announced the introduction of the state of emergency and the new restrictions. I don’t know how they came out to make statements just before our nightly diary began.
I am most concerned about the moments when information appears at the last moment, just before the start of the news journal and I have to prepare the material as soon as possible. I think if I could choose a superpower to help me, it would be the speed of light. 🙂
