Joe Biden has announced firearms control measures

US President Joseph Biden announced on Thursday afternoon additional measures to control firearms, calling armed violence in the United States a “shame”.

“Nothing I recommend violates the Second Amendment to the Constitution in any way. The arguments that rights under the Second Amendment to the Constitution are concerned are false,” Joseph Biden was quoted as saying by The Hill.

“Armed violence in the United States is an epidemic and an international disgrace. It must end,” Joseph Biden said in a statement to the White House with Vice President Kamala Harris and Secretary of Justice Merrick Garland.

The US president has called on the Justice Department to propose regulations for detecting hand-modified firearms that are being held illegally. Also, rules will be developed to intensify controls on the psychological profile of people who want to buy firearms. In addition, pistols with arm fasteners will be reclassified so that they can be checked more carefully by the authorities. The US president has called on Congress to swiftly take steps to expand controls on gun sales.

Joseph Biden is to appoint David Chipman, an activist for intensifying controls on the purchase of firearms, as director of the Office for Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms.
