Rospotrebnadzor notes the difficult situation with coronavirus in the EU countries. According to the head of the department Anna Popova, the trend is due to the seasonality of the disease, reports TASS.
“I have already said about seasonality: most likely, (coronavirus) is seasonal. Each respiratory virus has its own pronounced seasonality, ”she said on the air of Komsomolskaya Pravda radio.
According to her, 1% of all those who returned from abroad to the Russian Federation have a positive test for coronavirus. Popova noted that the situation with covid in Turkey, from where most of the mutated strains, in particular, the British and South African ones, are imported to the Russian Federation, is becoming more and more complicated. Popova called the growth of morbidity in this country “explosive”, noting that it had grown by almost 3.5-4 times in a few weeks.
According to the head of Rospotrebnadzor, more than 100 strains of the British version of the coronavirus and ten strains of the South African version have been imported to the Russian Federation at the moment.
Recall that in mid-December 2020, it became known about the discovery in the UK of a new mutation of the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus. The Advisory Board on New and Emerging Respiratory Virus Threats in Britain later confirmed that the variant of the coronavirus identified in the country is spreading at a faster rate and requires even more caution from the population.
In addition, a new type of SARS-CoV-2 was found in Africa.
