The Hirond’ailes association in France prepared 3,500 “little bags of the heart” that will start to be distributed today to the health professionals of five Portuguese hospitals to show their “recognition” to these teams.
“It is just to show our recognition […] It is important to show that they are not forgotten. Even far away, we think of them, the work they are doing and the time they spend away from their own families to help others, “explained Suzette Fernandes, president of Hirond’ailes, in statements to the Lusa agency.
The association seized 3,500 bags with small souvenirs that will be distributed starting today in the hospitals of Santa Maria (Lisbon), Santo André (Leiria), Santa Luzia (Viana do Castelo), Sousa Martins (Guarda) and Rainha Santa Isabel (Torres New).
In addition to souvenirs such as small jewelry, candles or hand creams, each bag also contains a poem by Lurdes Loureiro, a Portuguese writer based in France.
“We all have our family there. And if it is not to take care of them in the covid, they take care of them on other occasions. We have to show our recognition and our thanks for the work they do,” said the association leader.
All the souvenirs were donated by Portuguese businessmen based in France or Portuguese descendants, as well as the printing of the poems and the transport to Portugal. This action also had the support of Rádio Alfa, the main radio that broadcasts in Portuguese in the Paris region.
The Hirond’ailes association gathers several seamstresses of Portuguese origin in the Paris region and intervenes mainly in solidarity actions, having produced more than seven thousand masks since the beginning of the confinement that were donated to health professionals for the routes between home and hospital and also to the most needy.
